The efforts to establish the Department of Brain and Neurosurgery started in thebeginning of 1978 along with the establishment of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, whenthe President of Ankara Academy of Economics and Administrative Sciences Dr. Onur KUMBARACIBAŞI carried out an offer to Dr. Hızır ALP.
An average of 24,686 patient examinations, 1,780 surgical interventions and 678 Gamma Knife Radiosurgery interventions are performed in our Department annually. OurPolyclinics provides outpatient and inpatient treatment services and Gamma Knife SurgeryCenter includes 12 intensive care beds and a total of 30 (adult and pediatric) service beds.
The Hospital of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine started its services in Ankara Traffic Hospital in 1979. In the same year, Dr. Hızır ALP, Dr. Necdet ÇEVİKER and Dr. Kemali BAYKANER laid the foundation of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Department of Brain and Neurosurgery.
At the beginning of 2015, the Department was evaluated in terms of assistant trainingand instructive opportunities by the European Association of Neurosurgery (EANS), and wasentitled to receive a full accreditation after being registered as a Neurosurgery clinicaccording to the European Union Standarts.
Since its establishment, our Department has trained 52 experts and had a greatcontribution to our country by training the academic staff of 9 professors, 5 associateprofessors and 2 assistant professors. Moreover, till nowadays approximately 150 international and 200 national publications and numerous papers were published. Ourdoctors are constantly sharing their academic experiences with other colleagues in bothnational and international communities.
