The efforts to establish the Department of Brain and Neurosurgery started in thebeginning of 1978 along with the establishment of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, whenthe President of Ankara Academy of Economics and Administrative Sciences Dr. Onur KUMBARACIBAŞI carried out an offer to Dr. Hızır ALP.

Our department was established in 1980 in the Faculty of Medicine, which was opened in 1979 under the Ankara Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences. When Ankara Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences was renamed to Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1982 with the law of YÖK, our department was renamed as “Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation”.
